Charles 'Yogi' Jones


Charles 'Yogi' Jones joined the Claymores' coaching staff in February 2004 after two successful years as a player personnel assistant with the Cleveland Browns. He previously served as a defensive assistant coach with the Frankfurt Galaxy (1999-2002) and helped the Galaxy to the 1999 World Bowl. During his time with Frankfurt he also served as an NFL Fellowship intern with the Browns (2001) and Miami Dolphins (2000).

Jones has also coached for 12 years at the Division 1-A collegiate level. He entered the coaching ranks as a graduate assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh in 1984 and went on to coach defensive line and linebackers at James Madison University (1985-88), Rutgers University (1989) and Tulane University (1992-94). He also coached tight ends and tackles at the University of Pittsburgh (1990-91).

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jones graduates from Ringgold High School, the same school attended by Joe Montana. Jones also attended the University of Pittsburgh, earning a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's degree in public administration. He played as a linebacker and defensive lineman at the University of Pittsburgh (1978-82) and was a team-mate of Dan Marino. He played professionally as a free agent linebacker with the Dallas Cowboys in 1983.

Jones, 43, and his wife, Jane, currently reside in Blacksburg, Virginia. They have two children, Morgan (13) and Mallory (11).
