  Lesley's Rookie Gameday

The season has begun and for all us Rookies with an almighty bang!

After months of training, the first game finally arrived on Sunday and the Vets were right - nothing comes close to the feeling you get when you walk on that pitch!

The fans made the atmosphere electric. I would never have believed anyone who would have told me that this year I would be riding into the stadium at Hampden on the most monstrous Harley Davidson, but I did and let me tell you it was incredible!!!

As I was waiting (very nervously) to go on the pitch, I looked around and the look on everyone's faces was something I think I'll never forget. Everyone was wishing each other good luck, waving to those sitting in the fire engine, blowing kisses to the fans who had run down to sneak a peek before we came on. Nothing could have taken the smile off our faces. It was thrilling, overwhelming and mind-blowing all at the same time!

We are all superstars out there. Another fellow rookie was given a Scotland flag from a young fan and his face lit up when she took it and blew him a kiss. He was unaware that he had also made her day by giving it to her - she has now tied it to her cheerie bag and won't stop bragging about it!

I must admit I was slightly (well, honestly, very) worried that I would get nervous and trip or fall, forget steps or positions, but I never did and it's all thanks to the help and encouragement from my line captain Kelly and everyone else in the squad that have made this the most amazing start to the season.

Us Rookies were amazed at how professional everything was. It was definitely the most fascinating experience of my life (and that's only the first game). The routines were great, some helped by younger cheerleaders who did an excellent job. We have all decided too that Status Quo should release their NFL Europe song. It was so funky - dancing to that was definitely the funniest part of the day!

Without the motivation and support of everyone in the squad, I personally wouldn't have had the confidence to go out there, but they were right behind me and we cheered our way to a record-breaking victory. Watch out Frankfurt Galaxy, we'll see you on Sunday!!!
